Elm Grove Bathrooms
Project type
Bathroom Renovations
Date
Fall 2022
Location
Elm Grove WI
Elm Grove was a full scale remodel / rehab of the 1930's Colonial revival home.
This space was essentially in the original 1930s condition when we found it, with minimal updates.
Immediately diving into the bathrooms of this home was critical for functionality. We quickly updated the powder room and main full bath located on the second floor.
The bathrooms kept the existing footprint, due to the age of the plumbing and limited ability to change based on current code regulations (powder room specific).
The powder room got a new small scale vanity with storage underneath. Sourcing this took significant time and precise measuring to maximize floor space. We ended up cutting a notch into the doorway trim to provide the best fit, avoiding custom cabinetry costs. We also leveraged an European style toilet to fit the small footprint and provide some relief to the older plumbing.
The main bath got a moody, but bright art deco makeover. The tile and tub were not able to be salvaged, so we were starting from scratch. We used colorful porcelain tiles for the walls, indicative of the era, and a geometric black and while mosaic on the floor to provide durability but also give a modern edge. The tub was removed - however- this was with the plan to add a full bath with tub in the basement. We wanted to provide more floor space and get a sense of openess for this main bath, which we achieved with an oversized glass walk in shower. This also allowed us to install a full size elongated toilet.
We continued with chrome throughout the bathrooms, keeping with what would have been the traditional finish of the time period.
***The basement bathroom came during the basement renovation in early 2023.
